OK, so either Warner Bros. are really sticking to their guns with the July release date and think they can launch a full-force Internet marketing campaign that can win over some of the crowds and get them to come out to the theater to see this movie. Or, much like Pixar did with SOUL, they"re discussing the logistics of moving the date right now and will make an official announcement sometime down the line. Either way, an announcement on the situation will be made sometime soon, hopefully. Personally, I really do want to see this film come out on its release date. I mean, like Rob said once, what better way to welcome the masses back to the theater than with a hyped-up, mind-bending, Christopher Nolan thrill ride? But then that"s the thing: the masses aren"t exactly going to be flocking to the theaters the second they reopen, so there"s that to consider. Secondly, again, like they say in the above video, all the major sporting events where TV spots for this could have accumulated a prospective audience ain"t happening right now, and just relying on an Internet campaign isn"t gonna make up for that lost audience. So, yes, this film probably will move, but I don"t think it needs to get pushed back a full year. I would propose splitting the difference and releasing it in September or October. Think about it: there isn"t gonna be any major competition in those months (aside from maybe A QUIET PLACE II) theater attendance will have likely picked up, and I think that gives the WB marketing team more time to ramp up their promotional materials. And yeah, I know those two months are usually cinematic dead months, but I think the name Christopher Nolan is strong enough to attract people in any month that his stuff is released. I dunno. It could happen. But for now, unless some miracle happens, TENET is probably not gonna come out on July 17th.
